Female or Male Massage Therapist?

Female or Male Massage Therapist?

Whenever you are getting a massage at the comfort of your own homes, hotel rooms or at a spa, there is always that choice – female or male therapist? Seventy percent of regular massage fanatics are female and they also request a female massage therapist or masseuse. This is because women are very conscious of their body. They think of their figure imperfections like stretch marks, big hips, belly or unshaven legs. With a masseuse, they are more comfortable and therefore can relax during the massage. Some of them treat it as a chat session with the massage therapist, which is also another form of relaxation.

For men it is a whole different ball game.  They have considerations like, strength of a female massage therapist when they prefer a hard massage. There is also the question of getting ‘excited’ in the process. This is not something to be ashamed of since it is more of a biological reaction of your body to the process. Someone is rubbing oil all over your bare body. When this happens, a professional massage therapist should stick to basic rules of training, to redirect the massage to a neutral part of the body. If the atmosphere turned into an inappropriate sensual tone, the massage therapist can mildly remind the client of the limits or restrictions of the massage by saying ‘this is strictly massage only’.

Regardless of gender, religion and cultural restrictions, some clients just prefer stronger hands and they think that a male therapist can deliver better. Whether that is true still has to be supported by facts and statistics. Massage pressure is not about gender, it is about being familiar with the pressure points and using your body weight through proper posture to be able to give the suitable pressure the client is requesting.
